M.A.P.

While enjoying my morning cup of coffee; my youngest son on my lap and my oldest to my left,
I began reading the incredible book, Modern Miss Mason.

A few pages in, I read a passage about forming habits. I put my bookmark in the crease and started to recall all of the habits I’ve attempted AND failed throughout my lifetime. Of those habits, I started wondering how many of those actually stuck.
The answer: not many.

Writer BJ Fogg, states that in order to create a new habit you need 3 simple things:

  1. the MOTIVATION to do it

  2. the ABILITY to master it

  3. and a PROMPT to remember it

Motivation often only lasts if the positive feelings of starting something new, also lasts. Why would we continue to do something if it doesn’t yield results? We won’t!

This cycle of forming a habit isn’t foreign or uncommon. It’s quite the opposite. If we don’t get instant gratification or results on our timeline we WILL stop.

Choose to create habits from the heart. Ones that really focus on your attitude, core values, and personal connections and ones that affect your life on a consistent basis. Those will lead to long term success.

We have to perform small actions consistently in order to see long-term change happen. Start small and add on little by little as you reach each milestone. Most of us do not have the ability to go BIG or go home.

And, friends, THAT IS OK.

Read that again.

Prompts in your every day routine will motivate you and remind you of what you want to accomplish.

Set alarms, use sticky notes, find a buddy and good knowledge sources (outside of Google) - do whatever it takes to hold yourself accountable.

M.A.P. it out, you got this.

Love you, mean it. xo Dani
